An upper-class search and book experience

QFlyer and Flat Beds are subsidiary brands of Complex Travel, an Australian national travel company specialising in complex airfares. With over $120 million in airfares sold, the Complex Travel Group now employs 21 staff and includes 3 trading brands; RoundAbout Travel, QFlyer and Flat Beds.

The Opportunity

The previous versions of the websites were non-bookable, content and enquiries only. Complex Travel needed a partner that they could work with to rebuild the sites with the addition of ecommerce; allowing customers to search and book flights via the Sabre GDS. Being able to represent the quality of their brand with a smooth, slick, frictionless customer experience on the websites was a key objective of the project, and they needed to be able to manipulate results to show the best value flights, rather than cheapest, to their customers.

The Outcome

With unrivalled experience in complex third-party systems integrations within travel, Zolv was selected by Complex Travel as their partner on the project. We immediately began scoping the opportunities presented by integrating with the Sabre API and designed a mobile optimised search and book journey with lots of enhanced features that deliver choice and flexibility to the customer.

We immediately began scoping the opportunities presented by integrating with the Sabre API and designed a mobile optimised search and book journey with lots of enhanced features that deliver choice and flexibility to the customer.

The comprehensive search function, backed by a Sabre BargainFinderMax API integration, provides airport autocomplete, easy to use calendars, the ability to pick one-way, return, multi-city trips, and even the ability to select time of day travel preferences. The results are displayed in a multistep process, so the user can select each leg of their trip individually, allowing them to pick the flights that suit them best whilst the system in the background manages the switching between whole itineraries.

Zolv built a booking engine that seamlessly combines together three 3rd party systems; Sabre for booking, PaymentExpress for payment and Express Travel Group (ETG) for ticketing. We implemented enterprise level state management of the user as they proceed through the flow, ensuring that users cannot end up double-booking or not receiving a payment request. The booking process also includes expiry countdown to help avoid timeouts in the process and advanced abandoned booking detection so Complex Travel can attempt to capture an abandoned booking again.

It was important to allow the customer the choice to take bookings offline, so we enabled the user to add itineraries to a shortlist, which can then either be enquired about offline or booked later, online.

Zolv’s Web Travel Platform (WTP) gives Complex Travel the tools to configure their own deals with full imagery and descriptive content, which users can then browse or search. News categories and subcategories can be configured dynamically in WTP to create news article content, that can be filtered by tag, category, subcategory, date and shared on social media. Complex Travel have complete control over their website content pages, and header and footer links, with sitemap, google analytics and SEO management all managed within WTP.
