Intro

Zolv continually work with Virgin Holidays on developments and enhancements for their website. A new focus on the user prompted the evolution of many areas of the website.

The Brief

To bring a new user focus to the Virgin Holidays website and to create designs which were more in line with the new designs and developments in the booking process.

Zolv Delivered

The new designs have been a success on many levels.

  • Over 50 enhancements and new features including: error messaging improvements; more usable flight upgrade interface; date selection calendar developments and the addition of iCal format downloadble itinerary.
  • Key areas of development were in the user journey through product pages and the addition of tools to help customers in their holiday research.
  • Integration with TripAdvisor API to display user-generated content.
  • Delivered in time to benefit from the enhancements during the peak trading period.

Zolv continue to work with Virgin Holidays and usability experts Bunnyfoot on incremental improvements to the Virgin Holidays website in response to user testing.

Realtime inline pricing

By refocusing the product pages on the customer's ultimate goal we were able to rework the pages completely. This led to innovative use of new technologies to present sales messages, booking forms and product pricing inline with product content.

The reworks included the use of tabs, giving more space for bigger images and maps, clearer content and the integration of user-generated content via TripAdvisor. They also allowed existing features - such as the display of hotel-specific special offers to be given more focus.

Recent searches panel

A new set of research tools were developed to help the customer keep valuable information easily at hand without sacrificing screen space for merchandising and product display.

After registering, all customer searches are saved so they can be easily accessed without having to enter details repeatedly. The customer can also save specific hotels to their shortlist, which can be shared with friends via email. Any page on the website can be added to a Notes panel, allowing the customer to keep track of important information relating to their holiday, again these notes can be shared via email.
